Seewald and Stosek take the first stage of the Cape Epic

INTERNATIONAL: Stage One of the 2022 Cape Epic was won on Monday 21ST March by Andreas Seewald and Martin Stosek, the women’s race going to Sofia Gomez Villafane and Haley Batten.

Riding for the Canyon Northwave MTB team, Germany’s Seewald and Stosek of the Czech Republic covered the 92km course around the Lourensford Wine Estate in 3 hours 58 minutes 23 seconds, nearly three and a half minutes ahead of the second placed Buff-Megamo team of Dutchman Hand Becking and Jose Dias of Portugal. The Wilier-Pirelli pair of Italy’s Fabian Rabensteiner and Belgium’s Wout Alleman came third.

The women’s race was won by the NinetyOne-Songo-Specialized duo Haley Batten of the U.S. and Argentina’s Sofia Gomez-Villafane in 4 hours 50 minutes and 2 seconds, just 1 minute 49 seconds ahead of Symbtech ZA riders Ariane Luthi of Switzerland and South Africa’s Amy Wakefield. The South African pair Candice Lill and Mariske Strauss were third for Faces Rola.
